Together with my old friend Hendrik and Babak (a colleague), we went there for a performance of the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio.
A few months ago Hendrik asked if I was interested in this concert, but to be honest I had to do some surfing on the Net as I was completely unfamiliar with Delvon…
Once I discovered that he was a bit like Medeski Martin & Wood, playing soul-funk instrumentals, it was obvious that I had to see him!
Some brief background; The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio is an American soul-jazz group founded in 2015 and has released five albums. They toured in the United States and abroad, and have performed in several music festivals including the Detroit and the Monterey Jazz Festivals. Their music is rhythm-based and rooted in the 1950's, 60's and 70's soul-jazz, funk and blues styles, reminiscent of Booker T. & the M.G.'s and The Meters…
Delvon didn’t disappoint, after introducing his new band members (Brice Calvin guitar & Ashley Ickes drums) as TikTok finds(!), they played a tour hour set of originals and covers, very enjoyable, although their version of Wham’s Careless Whisper was a bit cheesy.
