Our guest blogger, Richard, introduces his post about this special Dutch lady as follows:
I started working as an aid to people who were/are wheelchair bound mid 90s and one of the clients was an ex-drummer in a Utrecht band, way back in the 60s.
Even before I was born.
In the years I worked there he sometimes made me aware of music I did not know, or had neglected.
He renewed my interest for David Crosby, a.o.
One day he talked about a new singer from Twente (The Netherlands) Ilse DeLange.
Over the years Ilse has become one of the great country singers (for me full-stop) not to come from Canada or the USA.
Her talent was early on recognised, and her first solo single I'm Not So Tough became an overnight succes.

From then it was success after success.
In 2014 she entered The Eurovision Songcontest with Waylon as The Common Linnets and made the beautiful Calm After The Storm.
They did not win, came second, but a few years later she would win as the coach of Duncan Lawrence.
In 2017 she acted in the TV series Nashville, playing a coach on a talent show.
Art follows life/life follows art, she became a coach in The Voice Holland.
I can better advise to click the link to wiki where you will find an extended biography
The Duets presented here are from her early days in 1998 up to 2023, so 25 years, a silver jubilee, and as far as I know a unique tribute to one of the great and sublime voices to come from The Netherlands.
Enjoy her singing with Kane, Zucchero, Giant Sand, Peter Maffay, Duncan Lawrence, and many more.

ReplyDeleteQuestion: Tell us about your favourite Dutch artist/group!
Just noticed the logo change over at Jon-ky's & got this link to your place from jonder. Welcome to your own slice of blogosphere. All the success in the galaxy. Not being that familiar with Dutch bands, hope I'm not insulting but mentioning my favorite, Brit transplant the Legendary Pink Dots.
DeleteThanks! The Pink Dots are fine, no worries.
ReplyDeleteThanks Koen, I left a comment earlier, but I think I just did not press publish....
ReplyDeleteI forgot a question, and your's a good one. Armand for me. And there are so many great bands. From The Tielman Brothers to MacTaple, from The Jets to Galaxy-lin. I can recommend the entire Eevo-lute catalogue to Nathan, Dutch Techno was not only commercially a succes but so many undergorund gems, try and find Bevery Hills 808303, I-f, Labels like TZ, Bunker, Ground Zero or Outland, or the many faces of Jochem Paap and Maarten van der Vleuten
Thanks Richard, that's a lot of new names for me !
